Seventh generation Craven potter, Lester Farrell, one of Daniel Zebedee’s three sons, began learning the craft at the age of five or six. He never had a shop of his own, but instead worked in other shops, where he was widely recognized by other potters as a first-class potter. During the Depression, he started working outside of his father’s shop. He worked for Teagues’ and for Herman Cole in the 1930s, then later at Merry Oaks (Royal Crown) in the early 1940s. In the early 1960s he also worked for Ben Owen, who had arthritis at that point.
