Abstract 8066c

Kim Keever

C-print {technique} Chromogenic print

Currently on view at Mint Museum--UPTOWN

Gift of Jerald L. Melberg

Originally a NASA engineer, Kim Keever changed careers in the late 1970s to become a full time artist. His creative work, however, has always alluded to his background in science. To produce his photographs, Keever releases pigments into a 200-gallon tank of water and photographs the spontaneous interactions that occur. Although his compositions may seem random, Keever strategically selects a pigment’s color, volume, and placement within the tank, much like a traditional painter would do on a canvas. The billowing effects create abstract forms that appear almost solid when stilled by the camera.
