Gift of Rick and Dana Martin Davis in honor of Bishop Claude Richard Alexander, Jr.

Drawing upon the work of the Pop artists from the 1960s, Jeff Koons has consistently explored the intersections between popular culture, banality, and fine art for the past three decades. He produced this limited edition sculpture to accompany G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time), a comprehensive photobook published by Taschen in tribute to Muhammad Ali (1942-2016). In keeping with his signature style, Koons includes an inflatable dolphin as an homage to Ali’s agility and grace and an inflated vinyl tire as a humorous substitute for the boxing ring. His intention is to create an obvious contrast between the whimsical sculpture and Ali’s tough public persona. Howard Bingham is a professional photographer, writer, and close friend of Muhammad Ali. His 1993 photographic biography, titled Muhammad Ali: A Thirty Year Journey, is one of the most celebrated accounts of the late boxing legend. The four photographs included here are limited edition prints chosen by Bingham and Ali to accompany G.O.A.T.
