Ben Owen III learned to turn pots from his grandfather, Ben Owen, Sr., who was the first “master potter” of Jugtown Pottery in Seagrove. He has updated the traditional dogwood vase, named thus because of the stylized dogwood blossoms on the vessel’s shoulders, by slightly altering its proportions and decorating it with his Chinese red glaze. The dogwood vase was a popular form made by Ben’s grandfather, Ben Owen, Sr., while the Chinese red glaze was introduced by Ben’s father, Ben Owen, Jr.
