Judith Schaechter’s stained glass art work combines innovative variations of ancient techniques with contemporary themes of death, sex, violence and romance. Typically her narratives are brought to life by a cartoon-like female figure. In Hemophilia, a wide-eyed girl is centrally positioned with blood trickling from her veins. This imagery stimulates a variety of emotional responses. Audiences might be disturbed or perhaps feel a sense of reverence. The work’s title Hemophilia references a rare genetic disorder that prevents an individual’s blood from clotting.
