Blue Vision

Claire Zeisler

woven hemp coiled felt

Currently on view at Mint Museum--UPTOWN

Gift of Donna Schneier and Leonard Goldberg

Claire Zeisler was a pioneer of the Fiber Art movement. She began her career making weavings on a traditional loom. Frustrated by the confines of the technique, Zeisler began making innovative wall hangings and later free-standing three-dimensional fiber sculptures. Her explorations pushed the medium in new directions and helped to create the field now known as fiber art. Blue Vision is part of a body of work that has a waterfall-like appearance. Built on a steel armature, the woven and coiled hemp strands cascade to the floor.
