Allan Chasanoff Ceramic Collection

Piero Fornasetti is known for his graphic sensibility, a devotion to surface decoration, a love of contradictions, and his often sinister imagery. He produced a massive collection of distinctive designs during his career. Fornasetti found inspiration in sources ranging from Surrealism to Renaissance and Rococo. There are over five hundred plates included in the Themes and Variations series. Each work includes the face of the same woman. Though the woman’s identity is a mystery, it has been suggested that she is perhaps the Mona Lisa, Fornasetti’s wife, or the courtesan Lina Cavalieri.
