Gift of Fleur and Charles Bresler

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania has a long history of quiltmaking within its Amish community. Three of the most common patterns associated with Amish in this area are Diamond in a Square, Sunshine and Shadows, and Bars. These quilts used solid colored fabrics, usually blue, teal, and red. Amish quilts also featured abundant quilting in black thread to create feather wreaths and vines. A unique feature of this Diamond Quilt is the stitching on the back. The stitching reads: "Made by Mrs. Emma Lapp b 1885-d 1974/made about 1928/home near Churchtown, PA."
