Indigo resist prints were created by applying paste to specific areas of a white cloth prior to an indigo dye bath. The blue indigo color was blocked from the areas masked with paste, leaving a design on the cloth. Indigo resist prints are among the rarest textiles. Examples that most closely resemble these coverlets are found only in the United States.
