Inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, Popeye cartoons and popular iconography, John Cederquist constructs functional furniture that fools the eye. His imagery creates illusions and challenges perceptions. In Pipe Dream a leaping swordfish surrounded by a spiraling pipe of gushing water surges from the surface with great energy. If you stand directly in front of this work, you might not realize that this is a chest with functioning drawers that intricately fit together like a puzzle.
