Hugh Bolton Jones created numerous paintings of the New England landscape in the Impressionist style, which had rapidly gained popularity in this country by the turn of the 20th century. This pastoral, sun-drenched scene was the fourth work of art to enter the collection of the newly opened Mint Museum of Art as indicated by its accession number, 1936.4.
